Silent Hill f Update Adds New Difficulty and Streamlines New Game Plus

Spooky season may be over now, but Konami and NeoBards aren’t done with Silent Hill f just yet. The latest standalone entry in the long-running psychological horror series has gone on to become one of the most well received entries in years. Now, a new update has been launched to make the experience even better, adding a new “Casual” difficulty mode and a much requested option to skip repeat unaltered sequences in New Game Plus runs.

New Game Plus Changes

To avoid spoilers, Silent Hill f‘s New Game Plus is not your average repeat playthrough. Each repeat playthrough allows the player to experience sometimes drastically different events from the first time, ultimately resulting in different endings, some of which need to be acquired in tandem to receive others. Ultimately, to get the “True Ending” for Silent Hill f, four playthroughs are required, each with their own branching objectives and puzzles that tie into each other.

Many fans were frustrated that despite these differences, a lot of sequences in the the New Game Plus playthroughs were left unaltered until the end of the game. Now, Konami and NeoBards have added an option to skip these moments without altering the ending the player will receive, however certain optional documents will be inaccessible.

“Casual” Difficulty and Quality of Life Improvements

Furthermore, a “Casual” difficulty mode has been added to Silent Hill f, joining the default “Story” and “Action” modes, and the unlockable “Lost in the Fog” high difficulty mode. Other quality of life updates and tweaks have also been implemented such as fewer unskippable combat sequences, faster default stamina regeneration and generally fewer enemy spawns.

Given that each of these are among the most criticized elements of an otherwise critically acclaimed game, it seems that NeoBards and Konami are keeping a close eye on expectations and discussion regarding Silent Hill f, a welcome sight given the series’ rough modern history. Hopefully this means we can expect more from this publisher/developer duo in the future.

Silent Hill f is available now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
