Thinking back on my time with the quirky convenience store sim Discounty, I can't help but perk up whenever something new pops up on the game's official X account. In my original review, I wrapped things up with a pretty honest take:
"Fans of the genre will have expectations, and the lack of polish in performance severely hindering gameplay and fun, some seemingly incomplete gameplay features, and a world that felt like it wasn't fully realized kept this game from being truly great."

This fast-travel is in front of this abandoned factory that has next-to-zero purpose in the game!
In other words, Discounty had all the ingredients for a fantastic indie. But a few rough edges kept it from reaching its full potential. My spidey senses were buzzing over things like the absence of real endgame content, oddly placed fast-travel points that seemed to lead nowhere, and buildings that were accessible yet completely unused. It all hinted at features that just weren't quite baked into the final release.
Making improvements
Thankfully, Crinkle Cut Games has been hard at work since then. With hotfixes and patches (versions 1.0.1 and 1.0.2), they've already tackled some nagging issues, such as (full list can be seen through their Steam page):
• Last-minute shoppers messing with shop ratings
• Friendship and trade deal hiccups
• And, my personal favourite: a skippable end-of-day report 👈 (seriously, game-changer).
At the end of their latest patch notes, they teased even more content on the horizon, including expanded endgame options to keep players coming back long after the credits roll. That's exactly the kind of improvement I was hoping for when I first put the game down.

After finishing the game, it really didn't feel like there was anymore reasons to keep living in Blomkest and running Discounty.
Discounty's official X account is quite active and regularly posts about their game and are active within their community. Fast forward to this week, September 17, 2025: they shared a mysterious screenshot of what looks like a small underground room, paired with the tantalizing caption: "Exciting things are coming to Discounty!"

Could this be the spark that gives the game the long-lasting loop it always hinted at? Personally, I'm crossing my fingers. Shopkeeping sims are my kryptonite, and Discounty had a formula that could easily be addicting if pushed just a bit further.
So, what do you think? Is this the kind of update that could bring you back? Maybe even convince you to give the game a try? Share your thoughts in the comments, I'd love to hear your predictions!
Discounty released on August 20th, 2025.
