Hell is Us: Unlock the Lend an Ear Achievement / Trophy Guide

Use our Hell is Us: Unlock the Lend an Ear Achievement / Trophy Guide to get find all the research items related to Hadea.

Hell is Us is third-person action-adventure game that aims to “return to the roots of adventure games” by getting players to rely on their instincts rather than way points and map markers. It’s ambitious and quite rewarding to make progress and discover stuff off the beaten path.

There’s a whole host of puzzles, mysteries and strange items to be found in the world of Hadea, where Hell is Us is set. Not to mention weird looking enemies too!

With that in mind, we’ve pulled together some guides which we hope are helpful. The Hell is Us Beginner’s Guide aims to give you some top tips of how to get the best start.

Think we’ve missed any? Drop them in the comments below!

Hell is Us: Unlock the Lend an Ear Achievement / Trophy Guide

As you explore the world of Hadea, the country at the centre of Hell is Us, you’ll come across a world of different characters. They often have interesting things to say or clues to help you with completing your objectives.

There seem to be two types of NPC in the game. Ones you can having more of a ‘passing conversation’ with and ones you enter into the actual conversation menu. The passing NPCs will say something to you without going into a different screen.

The NPCs we’re interested in are the ones who go into the actual conversation. That’s where you have options on the left and on the right. The left are more relevant dialogue options, and the right is world building and lore options.

Finding all the NPCs who you can talk to in this way will earn you the “Lend an Ear” achievement. But where are they? Read on below…

NPC Locations

There are 20 NPCs to speak with in Hadea.

Please note that these are listed in the order I found them, not necessarily the most efficient order. There’s also no indication that an NPC counts towards the achievement / trophy, so have included all the NPCs I spoke with who I think relevant.

Ernest Caldwell (1 / 20) – Senedra Forest

Near the beginning of the game. As you move through the forest, you’ll arrive at a clearing with a yellow house in front of you. There’s a save point in front of the house.

Go down into the basement to find Ernest Caldwell.

You will speak to him again later on. He will still be in the same location.

Wounded Soldier (2 / 20) – Senedra Forest

You should easily find the wounded soldier. He’s in the Senedra Forest and you’ll encounter him as part of your main objectives. He’s sat outside some ruins next to the APC.

Captain Vaas (3 / 20) – Acasa Marshes

Captain Vaas is pretty easy to find, in the town of Jova in the Acasa Marshes. He’s stood on a structure that looks out into the marshes. He’s looking through binoculars.

Abbott Jaffer (4 / 20) – Acasa Marshes

Abbott Jaffer is tied up in the town of Jova, being watched by a guard.

You will also speak with him in Lake Cynon later on.

Victor Gaz (5 / 20) – Acasa Marshes

You will find Victor in the tunnel to the back left of the Acasa Marshes. This is where the ON convoy has crashed. Once you’ve saved him, he’ll appear in the town of Jova as your blacksmith.

I think the NPC interaction has to be when he is back in Jova.

Tania Alver (6 / 20) – Vyssa Hills

Tania can be found in Vyssa Hills. If you head towards the Timeloop. To the left is a pathway that takes you underneath a wooden entrance. Head up the slope and go down the first left you come across. She is sat under a structure built into the wall.

Atticus Caldwell (7 / 20) – Vyssa Hills

Atticus isn’t far from the location of Tania. You will have to climb up a wooden ladder not far from Tania’s location. Head across the wooden bridge and up the path. The road will bend round and you’ll come to a fork. To the right is the location of the Watcher’s Nest, to the left is Atticus.

You will be able to speak with Atticus again later if you give him the ON truck keys as part of the Heart of Gold Good Deed. He will head to Senedra Forest and be in the same location as Ernest Caldwell.

Vitalis (8 / 20) – Vyssa Hills

I’m fairly sure this one is unmissable as he is core to the story. He’s to the back right of the area (if coming from the APC or the large tree in the centre of the area). He’s wounded to the left of the crashed ON convoy, sat in front of chunky tree.

Gildas Brom (9 / 20) – Vyssa Hills

Gildas will appear after you have completed the Watcher’s Next Ceramic Flowers puzzle. He’ll be sat straight across from you as you climb up from the ladder where the stone coffin is. He’s sat in front of a small whiteboard.

Gildas is your guy for turning into completed Timeloops and Good Deeds for rewards.

Boro Juven (10 / 20) – Talju

Boro can be found in the garage in Talju. To get there, from the APC, head right and take out the enemies as you go. The garage will be on your right at the end of this area.

Lukhan (11 / 20) – Talju

Lukhan is hidden in a shed attached to the side of a large building in Talju. From the APC, head forward under the bridge and follow the road to the right. Where the road goes left, follow it until it turns right again. You should reach a dead end with buses parked. Turn left and go around the building, the shed should be on your left.

Caspian Fran (12 / 20) – Talju

Caspian can be found holed up in the town hall in Talju. From the APC, head under the bridge straight forward and stick to the left hand side of the pharmacy. The town hall will be on your right.

Talis (13 / 20) – Marastan

Talis can be found on a balcony overlooking the houses and a church. You can get to him using the ladder down the side of his house.

Father Bramante (14 / 20) – Marastan

From Talis, he will ask you to kill the enemies in front of the church. After doing that, return to Talis and he’ll give you a key. Head to the right at the end of the street and you’ll find a locked gate that you need the key for.

Head through the gate and into the cave. Follow the cave round (take the first left) and you’ll enter a big room with a graffiti’d stone in the centre. There should be a small corridor to the left of that that you can go through. Drop down and head right.

Follow the steps down to an army camp where the Father can be spotted.

Rebecca (15 / 20) – Lake Cynon

You can chat with Rebecca at Lake Cynon. I think takes place during Act 2 as both her and Abbott Jaffer have fled there. Look for the house with smoke coming out of the chimney. It’s to the right, close to the water.

Rebecca is initially in the town of Jova, in the Acasa Marshes.

Maeve Tristana (16 / 20) – Lethe, Ministry of Cultural Primacy

Maeve can be found as you progress around the office of the Ministry. She is initially trapped by the enemies. You’ll need to clear them out and she will make her way to Martin Rolst’s office (where he has been hung).

Seo Kagin (17 / 20) – Auriga Museum

Once you’ve gained access to the Auriga Museum, you’ll have to unlock the training room to progress. This is done by diverting the power to the purple colour, in order to open the purple doors.

Once in the training room (it’s on floor B1), you’ll have to defeat waves of enemies to progress. Seo is in the control room that will unlock once you’ve cleared the training room of enemies.

Dr. Balaam Lamech (18 / 20) – Auriga Museum

After completing the training room (floor B1), there is a door that you can go through one of the cells. This takes you to another set of rooms, and a lab where there is a Timeloop.

The NPC will be sat on the floor.

Dr. Marga Hamil (19 / 20) – Auriga Museum

To find this NPC, you’ll need to progress with the power puzzle in the museum. As you reach Floor B3, you’ll need to switch the blue power circuit. This will grant you access to the room where Marga is.

Iblis (20 / 20) – Lethe, National Library

On the floor where the signs point to “Embry Hall”, the large space with lots of books in it. Head around the corridor and through a double door. There should be some stairs upwards. At the top of the stairs there’ll be a save point and on the left the ‘staff room’. In there, is Iblis.

The “Lend an Ear” achievement / trophy should pop after speaking with the last NPC.
