If there’s one thing that I’ve learned in the past view months writing for this website, it’s that gaming is getting more expensive. From Xbox to PlayStation and Nintendo all of the big three have increased prices in various ways over the past few years whether it be price hikes for services like PS Plus, Game Pass, Nintendo pushing the market to 80$ games or hardware price increases, its all been hit. Well, today, that trend continues in an unprecedented way as a now last-gen console went up in price in the States.

Its been reported by Gematsu that the entire original Switch console line along with the Alarmo clock and controller will be getting price increases. The price rise varies a but across the board and is as follows
- Switch - OLED Model - $399.99 (previously $349.99)
- Switch - $339.99 (previously $299.99)
- Switch Lite - $229.99 (previously $199.99)
- Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo - $109.99 (previously $99.99)
- Joy-Con 2 controllers - $99.99 (previously $94.99)
According to the article by Gematsu, the price increase is set to actually take place this weekend. However, retails like Target have already changed their prices to reflect the new pricing structure, so if you wanted any of these consoles and have the money, try to find one at the cheaper price now if you can.
Nintendo had confirmed back on June 30th that they were monitoring prices in Canada and basically have a warning to expect a price increase but failed to give much in the way of details at that time.
There’s no current price hike for Switch 2, but on Nintendo’s official site they don’t rule it out: “Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain unchanged at this time. However, please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.“
We will keep you updated should the need for any other game related price increases happen.
