Ubisoft Confirm to Shareholders New Ghost Recon in the Works

Investor meetings and calls, so often a treasure trove of video game news have struck again. This time at Ubisoft, where Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed to shareholders that a new Ghost Recon game is in the works.

Although an official announcement has not been made to the wider public, this is the first we've heard of a new entry to the franchise which has been dormant since 2019's Breakpoint. Ghost Recon Breakpoint's arrival was met with a mediocre reception, with a Metacritic critic score of 56 – and user review score even lower at 3.4.

2019’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint

In the meeting, the Guillemot had the following to say: “...our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer - and capitalising on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.”

What the new Ghost Recon will look like is still unknown, the franchise has had a variety of different gameplay styles including Wildlands' open world. Ghost Recon had an excellent spell during the Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3 generation, with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (GRAW) 1 and 2 being Xbox Live favourites. Later in the generation, Future Soldier released which itself had a solid campaign.

Also mentioned by Guillemot is a new entry in The Division franchise, following the cancellation of Ghost Recon Heartlands last year which did at one point look quite promising. Ubisoft have continued support for 2019 release The Division 2 to this day. It is likely that Ubisoft will want to ensure their upcoming shooters can release with more life ahead of them, following the closure of XDefiant which closed its servers in June 2025 just a year after launch.

A remake of Splinter Cell has been in the works for some time now as Ubisoft looks to revisit many of its Tom Clancy IPs, which have been underutilised for a long time.

What would you like to see from a new entry in the Ghost Recon franchise? A return to the GRAW sub-franchise? A return to an open world like in Wildlands? Let us know in the comments below and stick with GSC for all your gaming news.
