Today marks the official 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX, a much-beloved entry in Square Enix’s most iconic and popular franchise. Since an official FFIX 25th anniversary website was launched earlier this year, they have been unveiling several lines of merchandise and various events in the build-up to July 7th. To mark the occasion, Square Enix has released a special movie and revealed a rather unlikely collaboration with eyewear brand Zoff.

3 pairs of Final Fantasy IX-themed eyeglasses and a selection of accessories have been announced as part of the “Zoff | FINAL FANTASY IX” collab, with pre-orders for them available from today, July 7th, to August 3rd. The glasses are planned to be shipped by the end of February, 2026. You can visit the official Zoff website for full details on the FFIX collaboration.
The first pair of glasses is inspired by Zidane Tribale, the charming and deft-handed lead protagonist of FFIX, priced at ¥ 13,300.
“Brown Wellington frame that is easy to use on a daily basis. The color of the vine is the green of the vest. Near the choban, the weapon’s dagger, tail, and ribbon around the neck are represented by metal parts.”

The second pair is inspired by a fan favourite, the diminuitive Black Mage Vivi Ornitier, and is priced at ¥ 13,300.
“Bibi’s adorable eyes on the left and right sides of the front are the point. In addition, Bibi’s hat, jacket, sleeves, etc., are represented by metal parts near the choban.”

The final pair is called Premium, and is decorated with motifs from Final Fantasy IX, the Lifa Tree, Two Moons, and Crystal. They are priced at ¥14,400.

Each pair of glasses comes with a limited design case and a glasses wipe.
There are a couple of other accessories that fans can pick up to go with their new, stylish eyewear. First up is the Mascot Cleaner, a soft keychain in the style of the Moogle character Mowgli from FFIX, with a cleaner on the back good for cleaning glasses as well as phone screens. The Mascot Cleaner is priced at ¥1,500.

Zoff has also released a range of 9 glasses wipes, with 8 designs based on the main cast of Final Fantasy IX, and one mystery design. They are priced individually at Â¥500, and a set of 7 can be purchased for Â¥3,500. What could the mystery design be? One of the game’s main villains, Queen Brahne or Kuja, perhaps?

A final part of the ZOFF | FINAL FANTASY IX collaboration is a lottery being held on the official Zoff Twitter/X account, running from to day, July 7th to July 14th. Five people will be selected to win an original cotton multi-case, with a follow-and-quote repost campaign being held.

While we can’t imagine anybody saying that Square Enix hasn’t made a big enough deal out of Final Fantasy IX’s 25th anniversary, a glasses collaboration, several lotteries, and a special short film are probably pretty low on the list of what fans wanted.
The heavy mist of the Final Fantasy IX remake rumours, first seen as part of the infamous Nvidia leak in 2021, still hangs in the air, with no sign of the remake’s existence or lack thereof. It looks like we will have to continue waiting for anything official, and you can be sure the team here at GSC will only report on the facts.
