Resident Evil: Requiem Features First and Third Person Modes at Launch

At last weeks Summer Games Fest showcase we got our first look at the newest entry in the Resident Evil franchise, Requiem which will launch February 27 2026.

Capcom have now publicly confirmed Requiem (aka Resident Evil 9) will be the first Resident Evil game to have both first and third person perspectives from launch.

Players will be able to toggle between first and third person perspectives through the options menu at their will - tip of the hat to IGN for their hands on playtest report. Whilst not a seamless in-action swap, the option to change between first and third-person modes is a welcome one. For those who have minor PTSD from the opening minutes of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, being able to cower around a corner might be a welcome addition.

The previous mainline Resident Evil, Village (8) offered first-person only perspective at launch, later adding in a third person viewpoint via a post-release update. Meanwhile Biohazard maintained the first-person perspective only.

This is a welcome option for players who can now opt to tackle different stages of the upcoming game in different ways. There'll be a wealth of players in the passionate Resident Evil community who will play through the game in one view, to immediately restart in another - after all, Resident Evil games are well-known for multiple runs.

Resident Evil Requiem looks like it'll be a stunning new entry for the well-performing series, with Village and Resident Evil 4 both exceeding 10m sales. Capcom have delivered critical and commercial hit after hit in recent years and I'd be confident Requiem will deliver more of the same. Bring on Racoon City.
