Last week we got the release date confirmed for Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to the highly successful Ghost of Tsushima will release on October 2 2025 on PlayStation 5. Alongside the release reveal, we learned more about the story ahead of protagonist Atsu including her hunt for the YÅtei Six.
Now in a new interview with famous Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Sucker Punch's Creative Director, Nate Fox and Art/Creative Director, Jason Cornell, shared more details about the anticipated sequel.

Story and location
The main theme for the game is revenge. Atsu suffers from trauma from their childhood and is hunting the Yotei Six, or the Yotei Rokuninshu. The story is not just about seeking to punish the Rokuninshu, but also overcoming her trauma.
Based in Ezo (present day Hokkaido) in 1603, the game features a vast and beautiful landscape that changes throughout the seasons. The developers set out to create a play space that combines a lawless environment where danger hides within the games stunning vistas. The peoples of Ezo in the game include many settlers who moved from Honshu.
The developers also travelled to Hokkaido to research Ainu culture. They went to museums, met with local people and even went wild vegetable picking in the lands that will be depicted in the game.
There will be shifting seasons in Yotei. Summer periods will bring blooming flowery fields, whereas in winter players can traverse lush snowy fields. The developers want gamers to feel the seasons rather than them simply being aesthetical.
Sucker Punch claim this is the most vast map they've ever created, alongside that they are offering the greatest freedom possible to players. The world, strongly influenced by Japanese period dramas, will be open for players to find their own path to revenge on the Yotei Six.
New weapons and combat
As well of the returning sword, players will have access to a new arsenal of weapons. An odachi (large/great sword), kusrigama (chain-sickle), dual swords and spears will be available to use.
In addition to melee weapons, Ghost of Yotei will introduce range weaponry in the form of bow and arrows and throwing weapons. Atsu "is not a warrior or samurai... therefore, she fights using whatever is available", including weaponry of defeated enemies.
Throughout the world there will be martial arts teachers and masters who will teach you new tricks and abilities.
