Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the hot new turn-based RPG from fledgling studio Sandfall Interactive, has sold over 500,000 copies since it on April 24th, 2025. It is a phenomenal feat for any new game, but it’s even more impressive seeing a new IP reach these numbers, especially in a genre like RPGs.

The studio shared the news on their social media channels, thanking those who had gone out to buy the game, either physically or digitally. It also should be mentioned that Expedition 33 is available on both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus Extra, giving millions of subscribers access to the game without purchasing it.

But that’s not the only milestone that Sandfall Interactive has to celebrate. Alongside Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s amazing sales, it has a Metacritic score of 92, making it the highest-rated game of 2025. The game has been weighed down with glowing reviews from critics and fans alike, many praising its take on active turn-based combat, incredible writing and voice acting, beautiful visuals, and captivating soundtrack.

You’d think that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s rating and sales figures would be enough cause for celebration, but there’s more! Within the hour of writing this article, the game has also hit a peak concurrent player count of over 70,000 on Steam. This has all happened within the first 48 hours of the game’s release, and judging by the buzz on social media and its other achievements, we suspect that number to go up.

It’s thrilling to see a game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s player count, ratings, and sales do so well so quickly after the game’s release. 2025 has already seen several amazing releases, genuine GOTY contenders like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Blue Prince, yet a small French studio
