Its only Wednesday and this weeks gaming news has already been difficult to keep up with, however today out of basically nowhere PlayStation have confirmed that Ghost of Yōtei comes to PS5 on October 2 2025. Pre-orders for the game will open on May 2 but players can wishlist the game now on the PlayStation Store.

Taking to X, PlayStation confirmed the games release date alongside a new trailer which introduces the Yōtei Six "” gang members Atsu will hunt down in Ghost of Yōtei:

Over on the official PlayStation blog post, Andrew Goldfarb - Senior Comms Manager from Sucker Punch shared further details about Atsu's journey that we will get to experience later this year. The game centres around the hunt for six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito. 

One by one, she's hunting them down to avenge her family, armed with the same katana used to pin her to that burning tree all those years ago. But while Atsu's story begins with vengeance, she'll find there's more to her journey than just revenge. As she explores Ezo, Atsu will meet unlikely allies and forge connections that help give her a new sense of purpose."

This will be the second AAA Japanese history open-world game this year, following the launch of the successful - yet divisive - Assassins Creed Shadows.

Ghost Of Yotei Boxart

Todays reveal included the Ghost of Yōtei boxart which, like the original's, looks excellent:

Alongside the reveal of the release date, Sucker Punch have also confirmed there will be a Collectors Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition and pre-order bonuses.

Pre-order content

Players who pre-order the game will receive an in-game mask as well as seven PSN avatars for the game. The standard edition of Ghost of Yōtei will be $69.99 USD / £69.99 / €79.99 / ¥8,980 MSRP and will be available physically or digitally:

Digital Deluxe Edition

The Digital Deluxe Editon includes a digital copy of the game as well as bonus items including The Snake's armor set, dye for your starting armor and a unique horse colour. The Ghost of Yōtei Digital Deluxe Edition will sell for $79.99 / £79.99 / €89.99 / ¥9,980 MSRP:

Collectors Edition

The Collectors Edition contains a number of physical and digital items included a built to-scale replica of Atsu's Ghost Mask. The Collectors Edition also includes all of the items from the Digital Deluxe Edition and a full digital copy of the game. Pricing will be announced at a later date.

The sequel to the stellar open-world original was announced at State of Play in September 2024 to the delight of franchise fans. The original launched on PS4 in 2020, with Ghost of Tsushima launch later seeing a Directors Cut on PS5. Then in 2024, Tsushima topped US sales charts in May following a highly-successful PC release.
