If you've been even remotely following gaming news over the last few months, you will have likely heard the rumours of The Elder Scrolls: IV Oblivion Remastered. The leaks have come thick and fast, making gamers wonder when we’ll get it, and if it was real.
Today, we finally have confirmation from studio Virtuos that the Remaster is real and looks absolutely stunning.
Check out the reveal trailer below:
What is even more exciting about today’s reveal is that we don't have very long to wait to get our hands on the game. The game releases today on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, PC, PS5, and PS5 Pro. A deluxe edition is also available which cheekily, includes the Horse Armor DLC.

The Elder Scrolls: IV Oblivion is one of the best-regarded RPGs of all time and one of the Xbox 360's best games, period. When it launched in early 2006 on Xbox 360, I couldn't believe the world presented to me when I first left the sewer. It was a sight to behold and a gaming memory that deservedly lives rent-free in my memory. I can't wait to experience it all over again, almost twenty years after the first time, like the Adoring Fan of the series I am.

In screenshots and the reveal trailer for the game, the subtitle "˜Remaster' isn't giving itself the credit it deserves. The game has been gloriously recreated in Unreal Engine with character models, redesigned worlds, and much more. This is no "˜Oblivion HD'.

- Improved combat animations, including damage reactions.
- Defined 3rd person perspective, similar to Starfield’s third person experience.
- Addition of sprinting feature.

Elder Scrolls’ Future
Whilst the wait for The Elder Scrolls VI seems to be never-ending, the Remaster of Oblivion looks like it will certainly fill a big void for series fans. More time has passed since The Elder Scrolls VI’s reveal on June 10 2018, than the time between Skyrim’s launch on the famous ‘11.11.11’ and the VI’s reveal. At least Todd Howard shouted out the sixth entry in today’s announcement.
For years, Oblivion fans have been incredibly excited for the mega-project fan mod, Skyblivion. The Skyrim mod which re-creates the whole of Oblivion in the Skyrim engine, has been in development since 2018 and will hopefully live in harmony alongside the now official Remaster. The Skyblivion developers have recently said “Players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional version of Oblivion”.
