Split Fiction – How To Find All Side Story Locations

Split Fiction, the latest from Hazelight Studios, has a fair number of side stories in the game, all of which are optional and missable. If you are going for the 100% completion of the game you will need to do them all. This guide will help you find the locations of all side story missions to unlock the Bookworms achievement or trophy.

In order to start side stories you must find the sphere balls that will warp you into each side mission. If you do end up missing one don't worry as the game has a great chapter select feature.

For spoiler reasons we won't go into much detail on the side story missions beyond letting you know the location. These missions however are pretty straight forward so you shouldn't have much issue.

Side Story 1: Legend Of The Sandfish

Chapter 2: Play Me Techno

The first side mission is pretty hard to miss unless you ignore it. In chapter 2 the game will essentially introduce you to the side missions using this side story and it will be featured in a cutscene. Once you get out of the cutscene you may enter it.

Side Story 2: Farmlife

Chapter 2: Streets Of Neon

At the very beginning of the Streets Of Neon section of chapter 2 you and your partner will run up a set of stairs. To a long corridor. To progress the main story you will want to hang a left, however to get to the side story you will want to go straight. Jump up over the fence and find the sphere.

There are also 2 missable achievements/trophies you can find in this side story, Goin' Whole Hog and Huffing & Puffing. You can find guides for each by clicking the links.

Side Story 3: Mountain Hike

Chapter 2: Big City Life

During Chapter 2: Big City Life you will get to a point where you have to jump across a roof. Inbetween the 2 buildings will be a bunch of flying traffic. Instead of jumping across the gap look to your right and have player 1 enter the first portable toilet.

Player 2 then needs to pick up the portable toilet with their ability, turn around 180 degrees and throw player 1 over onto the large building. Once landed player 1 can kick down the ladder so player 2 can climb up and start side story 3. This side story is one of many Easter eggs for Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons.

Side Story 4: Train Heist

Chapter 3: Lord Evergreen

You will get to a point where player 1 needs to tow player 2 through the water on a large stick through the water. To the left there is some pink water lilies which is where you go to progress the main story. Straight ahead however is the next side story.

Tow player 2 over to the platform instead and do a bit of traversing up to the side story.

Side Story 5: Gameshow

Chapter 3: Walking Stick Of Doom

You will walk across a wooden bridge that will momentarily switch your view to a 2D side scroller. Once you cross the bridge you will see the path to your right that continues the main story. To your left is a bright pink circle light. Hess towards that instead for side story 5.

This one requires a decently hard section of platforming to get across to, jumping on beams and grappling across. Once you get there be prepared for an epic side story which also features the most difficult achievement/trophy in the game, Cold Potato.

Side Story 6: Collapsing Star

Chapter 3: Halls Of Ice

This is one of the easiest side stories to find. You will be climbing the outside of the ice palace by jumping across some broken beams. Once you finally get on some solid ground in the tower the side story will be directly infront of you, slightly to the right.

Side Story 7: Kites

Chapter 4: Toxic Tumblers

You will come to a section where you have these giant steel cylinders rotating around which you need to use to jump across the toxic sledge. Once you cross the first section. You will get to a platform. Going left continues the main story, however straight ahead is the next side story, which you likely saw as you were crossing the cylinders. Simply cross the second section of cylinders to reach a fun little side story.

Side Story 8: Moon Market

Chapter 4: Test Chamber

After doing some platforming you will jump onto a rotating platform. To your right will be red and blue gates you need to pass through to progress the main story. If you look straight ahead though there will be more platforms and a door you can shoot open with your partner. Behind this door is side story 8.

Blast open the door, do a bit more platforming and make your way to the sphere. This is yet another great side story with a nod to a certain popular franchise.

Side Story 9: Notebook

Chapter 4: Soaring Desperados

Once you make it outside of the giant facility you will see another building out in the distance with massive rails attached. The rail will have a giant saw blade shooting down it. Jump on the platform and jump over to the rail when it's safe. A little ways up the rail and to the left is a floating platform where the side story is. This is one of the easier ones to spot.

Side Story 10: Slopes Of War

Chapter 5: Water Temple

Eventually during water temple you will take a giant stone lift up the mountain. At the top you will see 2 large golden balls on the ground which is where you want to go to process the main story.

However first you will want to turn to your left and follow along another path to reach side story 10. You will have to work together to get these giant platforms moving to get to it. Have one player jump on the moving platform to cross to the other side. Once there jump off, take the ladder to the right and jump on the higher platform while the player that stayed behind can bring the platform back and jump on themselves. Take the higher platform across together to find side story 10.

Side Story 11: Space Escape

Chapter 5: Craft Temple

Right after defeating the Dragon Slayer boss you will exit the cave. Straight ahead is the path forward to continue the main story. Look to your right instead to find a little section with one of the glowing rocks. Player 1 will have to jump and glide across while player 2 hits that rock providing them with a boost of air.

Once across player 1 will need to melt a chain to release a vine wall to help player 2 up and reach the side story. Side story 11 is the penultimate side story so we are almost there!

Side Story 12: Birthday Cake

Chapter 5: Treasure Temple

The last side story might be the most disturbing one, and also maybe the best one. Progressing along you will pass a couple of those breakable pink crystals as you jump up some small sections. Once you drop down you will see an archway to your right, which is the way forward for the main story. To your left is a rainbow in the sky. Head towards it to find some giant candy on a floating island you need to jump over to for the final side story.

This concludes all the side stories in the game! There are no more in the final 3 chapters which will help make those chapters feel much shorter. Hopefully this guides has helped you find anything you've missed and earned that Bookworms achievement or trophy. Below you can find guides to any other missable achievements you may have missed!
