Xbox has just announced the return of the well liked gaming showcase, Developer_Direct. A smaller affair than your Summer Games Fest, Developer_Direct puts the spotlight on three or four studios who have got new releases coming up soon. Having taken place in January the last couple of years, it was very much expected to take place again, and now we have confirmation as per the announcement on Xbox Wire.
The next Developer_Direct will take place on Thursday 23 January at 10am PST / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT.
The Developer_Direct are presented by the creators of the games of focus themselves, and this year’s focus will be on:
- DOOM: The Dark Ages – developed by id Software, it’s the prequel to the 2016 release, DOOM, set in a sinister medieval war against Hell.
- South of Midnight – developed by Compulsion Games, the creators of Contrast and We Happy Few, before the reveal of South of Midnight, they had been very quiet beavering away on this title; a third-person action-adventure game set in the American Deep South.
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – developed by Sandfall Interactive, this is the team’s debut new RPG, where they will talk more about the story and game’s creation in the Direct. I know many folk at Gamer Social Club are excited for this one.
- Super secret surprise – Xbox teases visiting a “surprise location” to see another studio’s “brand new game” – taking all bets for what this one is.
The first Developer_Direct included the shadow drop of well-revered, and subject of a rough 2024, Hi-Fi Rush by Tango Gameworks, so I’m sure speculation will be rampant that we might get a cheeky surprise or two.
I’m personally super excited to see more of South of Midnight, I love Compulsion Games, and can’t wait to see what they’ve been working on. What are you excited to check out?
