It is still the beginning of the year of 2025 and a behemoth is getting ready to drop in the modding community. At the time of writing, the highly anticipated mod for Bethesda’s mega hit game Skryrim, called Skyblivion is set to drop this year. The team just dropped a new roadmap video on Youtube which I’ll include in this write up for those interested in the finer details of development as they are shaping up.
Much like last year with my coverage of Fallout London I’m planning on covering major announcements related to this mod going forward and rather then attempt to field question’s on Twitter/X after my articles I figured I’d attempt to get a head start on them based on what I’ve seen asked on the internet. With that in-mind, let’s get started.
So What Is Skyblivion?
Skyblivion is a mod for Skyrim that’s been in development since 2018, though the project has its roots as a port which started in 2012 and a remaster that started in 2014. What it aims to do is arguably bigger then even what the Fallout London team managed to do. In short, the team behind Skyblivion is remaking Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine.

Where Is This Going To Be Released?
Unlike Fallout London, Skyblivion is actually aiming to be released on Nexus mods. This is good news as that means whether you own the game on Steam, GOG (Good Old Games) or Epic Games, the mod should work fine. I’d suggest looking into a nexus mods manager like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 as it makes downloading mods for games much easier than managing them and dropping them in the correct file path.
I went with Vortex because, for me, it was easier to get up an running, though some have told me I’m wrong for using it. I’m not here to argue about mod managers (use reddit for that) so I’d suggest you look up guides for both and use which every you’re conferable with.

Is This Coming So Console?
While mods are supported on the last two generations of both Xbox and PlayStation console’s, the cap on mods for the console release of Skyrim is 5 GB. It’s hard to say exactly how big this mod will be. The original game of the year edition of Oblivion is almost 6GB, and the 4K texture pack on nexus mods for that game is about 14GB. Keep in mind this mod is going to be for Skyrim, and the assets from Oblivion are being rebuilt for this so there’s no way to get them down to a size that would work for the console version.
When Is Skyblivion Coming Out?
An exact release date hasn’t been given. However, the target year was announced in January 2023 through a trailer on youtube from the developers YouTube channel and by all accounts that the window seems to be holding. I’d guess the second half of 2025, but that part is purely speculation on my part. The newest road map video did state “we are less than a year away from our target release,” so it seems there’s at least a quarter or month in mind internally.
What Do I Need For The Mod To Work?
Apart from the mod itself, which is 100% free by the way, you will need to own both the Skyrim Special Edition and Oblivion game of the year edition. Basically, both games with ALL their DLC.
What About Oblivion’s DLC?
As it stands, the team is working on the base game. However, there is intention to tackle the DLC after the base game releases. There is no timeline on that at the moment, but I’m sure we will get more information after the mod drops.

According to the most recent road map, the team seems to be in the final stages of this mod. The people behind this seem just as passionate as the team behind Fallout London, and I hope they have just as much success as that team has had and I personally can’t wait for more updates on the Skyblivion release.
I’ll be following the mod much in the same way I did Fallout London, so if there’s any information you’d like answered in future articles, feel free to leave a comment below.
