Bloober Team Reveals Cronos: The New Dawn Concept Art

It’s the season of giving, and the team behind this year’s horror smash hit, the Silent Hill 2 remake, have started proceedings early! As a small treat to their fans, the good people at Bloober Team posted some concept artwork for their upcoming Sci-fi survival horror game, Cronos: The New Dawn on its Steam Page.

In a message accompanying these glimpses of the game’s art direction, the developers thanked their fans for all their support, and promised to there was more to look forward to in 2025.

“We are thrilled by the support we've received since revealing Cronos: The New Dawn and by all the love you've shown us throughout the whole year. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Today we'd like to share a few pieces of concept art from Cronos and spice them up with a little more context. Yes... we are still a bit secretive since we are cooking up a lot of cool stuff for you in 2025.”

The developers have paired some context with each of the released screenshots, giving some insight into the creative process as well as the nature of Cronos: The New Dawn. The game is set in 1980’s era Poland, where Bloober Team is founded, often a source of inspiration for the team. “When it comes to the twisted time-travel journey depicted in Cronos, we will be letting you explore New Dawn, a district heavily inspired by real-life Nowa Huta, one of Kraków's actual areas.” The post goes on to describe the region of New Dawn as “a monument of Brutalist architecture”, that has since turned into a hollow wasteland. The cause is something referred to as The Change, but no other details are given here.

Another piece of concept art is of the game’s protagonist, called TRAVELER ND-3576. It gives us a much better, and more detailed look at the suit they are wearing in the reveal trailer shown at Xbox’s Partner Preview. Looking like if H.R. Giger designed deep sea diving suits, it’s a pretty striking look that the devs say “hides a few surprises”!

The post also gives us some more information as to what sort of gameplay to expect from Cronos: The New Dawn. “Whether it"˜s a tense combat sequence, exploration, gathering resources, or traversal through the desolate parts of the city - the suit's functionalities and additional tech will definitely come in handy. Time travel and dealing with temporal anomalies are no exceptions.”

Bloober Team have made a name for themselves with their excellent art direction, especially when it comes to their monster designs, and Cronos: The New Dawn is looking to continue that trend. The post describes the creatures our enigmatic hero will encounter as “born from the remnants of humanity”, so strap in for some good old fashioned body horror!

Nightmarish Abominations Still Linger In New Dawn.

So with these insights into the game’s world, character, and creature design, what’s the premise of Cronos: The New Dawn? “As an agent of the mysterious Collective you will travel through time in order to locate key people from the past and extract their essences.” A Traveller is equipped with a device called the Harvester, as can be seen in the concept art provided. There are also “strange technological artifacts” to be found in New Dawn, but their purpose in a world devoid of humanity is unknown. The only other piece of information that gives us a clue as to what is going on is possibly a quote taken directly from the game itself:

“Survive the nightmare of the future to save what remains of the past.”

Strong Retro-futurist Vibes.

The Cronos: The New Dawn team finished off the post sharing some tracks from the game’s soundtrack, composed by Arkadiusz Reikowski who has worked on many of Blooder’s previous titles.

Bloober Team have had an excellent 2024, with the release and success of the Silent Hill 2 remake and the announcement of Cronos: The New Dawn. While it will likely be some time till we hear or see more about the game, it was lovely of the developers to treat their fans to a taste of the twisted time travelling terror they are cooking up!

Cronos: The New Dawn is set to release in 2025 on PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5.
