Sabotage Studio has announced a major milestone for Sea of Stars as the game has now reached over 6 million players.
Sea of Stars launched back in August of 2023 to critical acclaim and the little RPG quickly proved popular with gamers, selling over 100,000 copies within its first 24 hours, and had reached 4 million players by its December of 2023. This was impressive considering 2023 had a crowded schedule during that time with releases like Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 : Phantom Liberty being sandwiched in between.

Since it’s launch, the dev team have been hard at work supporting and improving the game with updates, like the recent Dawn of Equinox update. With a host of changes to gameplay and the game’s flow, it also added local co-op for up to 3 players.
Personally, Sea of Stars was my game of the year for 2023 as it was a great take on the SNES era RPGs in modern times. So seeing the game perform so well is a great thing to see. If you haven’t played it yourself I highly recommend trying it, as well as The Messenger, Sabotage Studio’s hilarious ninja gaiden-esque platformer set in the same universe.
I’m really looking forward to whatever Sabotage has planned next and hopefully we hear from them soon. If we see more from this universe which brought us two excellent games, or they decide to go a different route, I’m all for either.
Sea of Stars is currently available on PS4 and PS5, Nintendo switch, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game is also currently available on Gamepass as well.
