Circana has released its August video game sales report today. The company is a bit behind on the data but it is here now and to the surprise of no one, Madden 25 has topped the monthly charts ahead of Star Wars Outlaws.
Madden topping the monthly sales charts in the US has become a bit of a tradition. Since 2000 with the release of Madden 2001, Madden has topped the charts in the month it released for a staggering 25 consecutive years. Football of course is the most popular sport in the US where Madden does the bulk of its sales.

Infact, Football is so popular in the US that the sport occupied 3 of the top 4 spots in the August report with EA Sports College Football coming in 2nd as well as it's MVP bundle coming in 4th despite the game releasing in July. For the entire year College Football remains the best selling game, with the MVP edition now being the 4th best selling game on the year. The MVP edition is a premium edition for those unaware. Madden 25 sits in 12th place for the year.
Elsewhere on the chart, Star Wars Outlaws landed in 3rd place in its launch month and has failed to crack the top 20 on the year. While Ubisoft has reportedly not been happy with Outlaws sales and this may point to more proof of that, it should be noted that the game released on August 30th so this data only includes 2 days worth of sales for Outlaws.

Visions Of Mana and Gundam Breaker 4 are the only other new games to chart for the month, finishing 10th and 11th respectively. Unfortunately the Visions Of Mana team has already been laid off after the game released.
Hardware Continues To Decline
On the hardware front things continue to spiral downward in the US with hardware down 36% year over year. All 3 consoles are down at least 34%. The PlayStation 5 was the best selling console once again with the Xbox Series consoles coming in second.
With the recent announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro we will see later in the year how much of an effect it will have on the hardware charts. Xbox is also releasing a new console however it is mostly just a digital Series X with more storage so I wouldn't expect that to move the needle too much.
