Helldivers 2 Getting Major Free Update "Escalation Of Freedom"

Those who have been waiting for a reason to jump back into the fight for democracy may finally have their reason with Arrowhead Studios set to release a massive update to the game called the Escalation Of Freedom.

Announced as "the biggest update yet" today via the PlayStation blog the team dropped a ton of info for the update, which launches August 6th. Arrowhead says they've been listening to the community and have been hard at work delivering what they want and believe this is the first major step.

The new super fortresses

Arrowhead is cranking the difficulty up to combat rating 10 for those who want a more difficult challenge as well as adding new mission varieties. These Super Helldives, which are bigger and more heavily fortified outposts, will help unlock new equipment to make your Helldiver even more powerful. However new fans will still be able to experience these new missions on lower difficulties as well.

Swamps will also be getting a bit of an overhaul with this new update with a more haunted feeling. Keep your flashlights ready as you may never know when the enemy will attack in the dense fog.

New Enemies

The game is also set to receive some new enemies as well as a returning one. With the Escalation of Freedom update the Impaler will be making a return to the delight of fans. Also joining the Terminid ranks is the Spore Charger. The Spore Charger is shrouded in fog to obscure its location until it's right up on you

Also joining the the Terminid is the Terminid Alpha Commander, which is a supercharged Brood Commander that's bigger, meaner, and doesn't hesitate to call in other bugs for backup.

The Automatons ranks are also set to receive a boost with the addition of the formidable Rocket Tank as well as a few other bot surprises.

Quality Of Life Improvements

Finally the Escalation of Freedom update is set to bring with it a bunch of improvements. The biggest improvement is the fixing of "grief kicking". While many enjoy the co-op experience some hosts have abused their power in game and kicked teammates forcing them to miss out on loot. Arrowhead has addressed this saying:

"To help improve this we have implemented a system where if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team's loot from their previous session. All items can now be picked up by the player before extraction. The squad doing the kicking will see a message in the chat widget that a player has been kicked, yet their loot remains unchanged."

They will also be implementing new changes to the social menu which should make it easier to connect with friends.

Is this massive update big enough for people to come back to the fight for democracy? We shall soon find out! For now you can watch the trailer for the update below:
