As part of today’s interview with Youtuber MrMattyPlays, Todd Howard spoke on the iconic Fallout series, it’s growth in popularity thanks to the show and that there’s no need to rush the series back because of it.
While a large section of the interview was centered around Starfield, MrMatty and Todd did discuss one of Bethesda’s other massive franchises, Fallout. Fallout has seen a massive spike in popularity lately due to the show on Amazon and ever since the show launched fans have been clamoring for a new Fallout game. Unfortunately for those fans it doesn’t sound like Todd and his team are in any rush to do so:
“For other Fallout games in the future, obviously I can't talk about those right now, but I would say sort of rushing through them, or we need to get stuff out that is different than the work we're doing in 76, you know... We don't feel like we need to rush any of that. Right now, the Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of the franchise and story-telling.”

“I totally get the desire for a new kind of "˜mainline' single-player game, but those things take time. I don't think it's bad for people to miss things, as well. We just want to get it right and make sure that everything we're doing in a franchise, whether it's Elder Scrolls or Fallout or now Starfield, that those become meaningful moments for everybody who loves these franchises as much as we do.”
Based on those comments it appears that if you want any new content for Fallout you will have to continue to enjoy Fallout 76 for the foreseeable future. Perhaps we see some sort of spin-off from another Xbox studio (hey Obsidian) instead, but for now don’t hold your breath when it comes to Fallout.
